A tour package is a headline number and four things that move it.
Nearly every page you will read on this search prints the headline number. Almost none of them prints the four movers, which is why people arrive at a booking form expecting one figure and leave having paid another.
So this page does it the other way round. Here is what sits inside every package on this route, what is never inside any of them, and the exact levers that change the total after you have chosen.
The short version
- A shared package is a dorm bed, the bike and its fuel, a guide, entry tickets, most meals, and the return sleeper bus from Hanoi. That last one is worth checking on any page you read — it is a large cost, and it is not always inside.

- A jeep or SUV price cannot be compared to a shared bike price. The four-wheel packages include a private room for the whole trip; the shared motorbike package is a dorm bed. Two headline numbers, two different products.
- Travel insurance is never inside any package, ours included, and the cover that is in the price is not what most people think it is.
- Some people should not book a package at all. There is a section on who, near the bottom, and it is the honest part of this page.
What is actually inside every package?
Strip the marketing off and a shared Ha Giang Loop package is seven things.
The bed. On a shared trip that means a dorm — a shared room with bunk beds in a village homestay, not a room of your own. This single word is where most price confusion on this route begins, and there is a section on it below.
The bike and its fuel. A semi-automatic, usually 125cc. Fuel for the whole circuit is inside the number, which surprises people who have priced a self-arranged trip.
A guide riding with the group, and a local driver as well if you have booked the easy-rider version and are sitting behind one.
Entry tickets to the fixed stops, including the boat on the Nho Quế. That boat is a real line item and it is worth checking against any page you read.
Meals, counted rather than promised. A three-day trip carries three breakfasts, three lunches and two dinners. “Meals included” without a count is not a specification.
The return sleeper bus, Hanoi to Ha Giang and back. This is the line most worth your attention. It is a substantial cost, it is inside our listed figures, and it is not inside every price you will see quoted on this search.
The border permit. Much of the loop sits inside Vietnam’s land border area, and a foreign national needs a permit from the provincial immigration office, which works from an address in Ha Giang. The fee is US$10. We buy and register it for every guest and we are currently absorbing the fee ourselves — that is a promotion rather than a permanent policy, and it has no published end date, so treat it as true today and check it when you book. The six shared packages, side by side
Our own listed prices, taken from the 2026 rate card on 20 August 2026. The dollar column is a convenience rather than a quote: it uses 26,179₫ to the dollar, the rate recorded on the same day, and your bank will not give you that exact number.

Per person, dorm bed, return sleeper bus included in all six. The gap between the two columns buys one thing and one thing only: a person to ride the bike for you. Every other line is identical, and that gap has its own page.

What is never inside — and the part about insurance
Four things sit outside every package on this road, ours included.
Your own travel insurance. Personal spending. Tips. And anything you booked and then did not use.
The insurance line deserves more than a bullet, because it is where package pages get vague and where people get hurt.
We do carry a policy for you. Bảo Việt, the standard operator cover, with a death benefit of 50,000,000₫. It is a minimum-level policy and I would rather tell you that plainly: it is not travel insurance and it is not a substitute for travel insurance. So we ask every rider to buy their own before they arrive, and to check that it covers motorbikes — open the policy document and search it for the word “motorcycle” before you pay for it.
Separately, there is cover on the machine. If a bike goes down and cannot be ridden, moving or replacing it is our cost rather than yours. That is cover for the bike. It is not cover for the person on it, and a package page that lists “insurance” without saying which one it means has told you nothing.
The four things that move the price after you book
1. A room of your own. The shared package is a dorm. A private room with one bed, for up to two guests, is 432,000₫ a room a night (~US$16). A two-bed private room, for up to three, is 648,000₫ (~US$25). Over two nights that is 864,000₫ on top of a 4,276,800₫ trip — about a fifth again, and worth deciding before you compare anything.
2. A bigger bike. The package bike is a semi-automatic. A 125cc upgrade is 237,600₫ a bike a day (~US$9); a 150cc is 594,000₫ a day (~US$23). On a four-day trip the 150cc adds well over two million dong, which is a real decision rather than a tick box.
3. Where you are coming from. The return bus in the price runs from Hanoi. If you are joining from somewhere else there is a connecting supplement: 108,000₫ from Sapa on the limousine or single cabin, 162,000₫ on the Sapa cabin, 108,000₫ to 216,000₫ from Ninh Bình depending on the coach, 270,000₫ from Hạ Long and 324,000₫ from Cát Bà. Small numbers next to the trip, but they are numbers, and a page that quotes you a Hanoi price for a Sapa start has quoted you the wrong price.
4. Tết. Departures inside the lunar new year window carry +10%. The window is lunar, not a fixed calendar span, so it moves every year. Tết Đinh Mùi falls on 6 February 2027, which puts the surcharge window at roughly 23 January to 11 February 2027. If your dates are anywhere near that, check them before you compare prices at all — a 10% difference will swamp every other comparison you were making.
Why a jeep price is not a bike price
This is the comparison mistake I see most often, and it is not the reader’s fault.
The four-wheel packages — SUV and Jeep Wrangler — include a private room for the whole trip. The shared motorbike package includes a dorm bed. So when someone lines up a jeep headline price against a shared bike headline price and calls the difference “the cost of the car”, they have quietly folded three nights of private accommodation into that number without saying so.
For scale, on our own listed prices: a three-day SUV works out at 4,931,617₫ a head (~US$188) with three to five people in the car, and a three-day Jeep Wrangler at 8,808,480₫ (~US$336) with three or four. A private motorbike tour for up to eight guests is 6,419,520₫ (~US$245) over three days. All three include the private room; the shared 4,276,800₫ figure does not.
Compare inclusion lists, not headlines. It is the whole skill.
How to read anyone’s package page
Four questions. They work on our page and they work on everyone else’s, and none of them requires you to trust the answer — only to notice whether you get one.
- “Is the return bus from Hanoi inside this price?” It is one of the largest single lines. A page that leaves it ambiguous is not being ambiguous by accident.
- “Dorm or private room?” If the answer is dorm, ask what a private room costs before you compare this price to any other.
- “How many meals, counted?” Three breakfasts, three lunches and two dinners is a specification. “Meals included” is not.
- “What exactly does your insurance cover — the bike, or me?” There is only one right answer to this, and it is not a comfortable one. An operator who gives you the uncomfortable version is telling you the truth.
An operator who answers all four plainly, in writing, has told you more about how they run than any review will.
When you should not book a package at all
Three cases, and I would rather you found them here.
If you already ride properly and navigate unaided. Renting a bike and going alone costs a fraction of any package and hands back every decision a fixed itinerary takes from you. You take on the permit, the beds and the consequences of a breakdown, and if that trade sounds good rather than frightening, it is the better trip for you.
If price is the deciding factor. We are not the cheapest on this road and I would rather say so on the page than have you find out by comparing. What we charge covers tax and a real wage for the people riding with you, and those are the two lines a much lower number usually removes. If the budget is what decides this trip, the honest move is to spend less with us rather than less somewhere else: self-drive at 4,276,800₫ is a smaller number for the same road, and it is not a lesser trip.
If you cannot ride and do not want to sit behind someone for three days. Then the answer is four wheels, and you should be comparing SUV and jeep prices rather than motorbike ones.
So the sorting question is this: do you want the road handled for you, or handed to you? Both are legitimate. Only one of them is a package.

Can I book a Ha Giang Loop tour from Hanoi?
Yes — the return sleeper bus from Hanoi is inside our listed prices, so a Hanoi start needs no supplement. Joining from Sapa, Ninh Bình, Hạ Long or Cát Bà carries a connecting supplement of 108,000₫ to 324,000₫ depending on the route and the coach.
Is a private room available on a Ha Giang Loop package?
Yes, as a supplement on the shared motorbike tours: 432,000₫ a room a night for a one-bed room taking up to two guests, or 648,000₫ for a two-bed room taking up to three. The SUV and Jeep packages already include a private room for the whole trip.
Do Ha Giang Loop packages cost more at Tết?
Ours carry a 10% surcharge for departures inside the lunar new year window. The window follows the lunar calendar rather than fixed dates — Tết falls on 6 February 2027, putting the window at roughly 23 January to 11 February 2027.
