Ha Giang Loop Cost in 2026: What You Actually Pay

With us, a three-day Ha Giang Loop costs 5,650,560₫, about US$216, with a local driver.
Riding it yourself costs 4,276,800₫, about US$163. Both include the return sleeper bus from
Hà Nội, two nights, nine meals, fuel, the park tickets and the boat on the Nho Quế river.

That’s our own tour — Jasmine Tours is the company behind this site. Every price here is from our
2026 list, read on 20 August 2026 and converted at 26,179₫ to the dollar the same day.

The number people get wrong isn’t the tour price. It is the pile of things sitting outside it, and
how much of that pile is already inside ours.

The short version

• Three days, two nights, shared group: 4,276,800₫ self-drive · 5,650,560₫ with a local driver.
• The return sleeper bus from Hà Nội is inside both figures. So are fuel, sightseeing tickets and
  the Nho Quế boat. Those are costs many guides list separately, on top of a tour price.
• Riding yourself saves 1,373,760₫ on three days, about US$52. It’s the honest cheaper option,
  not a lesser one.
• With three or more people, a car costs less per head than a seat on a bike — and includes a
  private room: 4,931,617₫ in an SUV against 5,650,560₫ behind a driver, where the room is a dorm
  bed. At two people it flips the other way.
• Travel insurance is not included and you must buy your own. What we carry for you is
  minimal by design, and I would rather explain that than let you find out later.
• We are not the cheapest on this road. There is a reason, and it shows up on our payroll.

How much does the Ha Giang Loop cost in 2026?

These are our shared-group prices, and each one is a package rather than a starting figure. All of
them include the round-trip sleeper bus between Hà Nội and Hà Giang, a dorm bed and meals as listed.
The bike, its fuel, the sightseeing tickets and a guide are in there too, along with a local driver
if you choose easy rider — that’s the option where a local rider drives and you sit behind them,
so you never touch the controls. A dorm here means a shared room with bunk
beds rather than a room of your own.

If you want the road to yourself rather than a group, a private motorbike trip is 6,419,520₫
(US$245) for three days and 8,100,000₫ (US$309) for four. Those carry a private room and the VIP
cabin bus instead of the sleeper, for up to eight people.

I split this route into two, three and four-day versions because riders kept running out of daylight
before Đồng Văn; by 2020 all three were printed on the route map we handed out with every bike. Other people worked out day splits too, and I am not going to pretend
otherwise. The difference is that we pushed ours, hard and for years, until it wore into the shape
most people ride now. Two days is possible and leaves you no room for weather. Four is the version
where you actually stop.

What is already inside that price?

Worth being specific, because this is where the comparisons usually go wrong:

• The sleeper bus from Hà Nội and back. Both legs.
• Two nights’ accommodation, dorm by default.
• Nine meals on the three-day trip: three breakfasts, three lunches, two dinners.
• The motorbike and its fuel. You do not stop at pumps with your own wallet.
• Sightseeing and park tickets, including the boat through the Tu Sản canyon on the Nho Quế
  river on day three. That one gets asked about more than anything else on this list.
• A guide, and a local driver if you booked easy rider.

What the price leaves out

• Travel insurance. Yours to buy, and the section below is the one that matters most.
• A private room, if you do not want a dorm: 432,000₫ per room per night for one bed sleeping
  up to two, 648,000₫ for two beds sleeping up to three.
• A bigger bike: 237,600₫ a day for a 125cc, 594,000₫ a day for a 150cc.
• Getting to Hà Nội in the first place, and any connecting leg — the
  Hanoi to Ha Giang options are here. Coming from Ninh Bình, Sa Pa, Cát
  Bà or Hạ Long instead adds a bus surcharge from 108,000₫ to 324,000₫ depending on the route and the
  seat.
• Drinks, snacks, tips, and anything you decide you want on the road. We don’t publish a figure
  for this, because we’d be guessing at what you’ll want. Carry some cash for it.

Should you ride it yourself, or pay for a driver?

On three days the difference is 1,373,760₫, about US$52. On four days it is 1,944,000₫,
about US$74. That’s the whole financial question. The rest of it isn’t financial at all.

So: have you ridden a semi-automatic motorbike on wet mountain tarmac before? A semi-automatic
is the common Vietnamese bike — you change gear with your left foot, but there’s no clutch lever to
pull. It isn’t a twist-and-go scooter, and the difference shows up on a wet descent.

If the answer is yes, ride it. Self-drive is the honest cheaper option here, and it’s one we sell
too — I’m not going to talk you out of the cheaper thing on our own list. If the answer is no, or if it is “not since a scooter in Thailand”,
then that 1,373,760₫ buys you a local driver on descents where the surface changes without warning.
Plenty of people pay it and are glad they did, and plenty of others would have been fine without it.

What you shouldn’t do is book self-drive because it’s cheaper and then discover on the Mã Pí Lèng
pass that you’ve bought a problem. If you’re still weighing the two, the

The point where a car beats a seat on a bike

This is the part that surprises people, so here is the arithmetic in the open.

A three-day trip in an SUV with three to five people is 4,931,617₫ each (US$188). A seat on
the back of a motorbike with a driver is 5,650,560₫ (US$216). Fill the car and you’re
718,943₫ per person below the bike seat, about US$27, over the same three days, with a roof.

Now the part that decides it, because two headline prices tell you nothing until you read what’s
under them. The shared motorbike trip puts you in a dorm. The SUV and the Jeep include a
private room for the whole trip, along with an English-speaking driver, fuel, the same
sightseeing tickets and the same Nho Quế boat. On the motorbike package a private room is an extra
432,000₫ per room per night.

So the car isn’t merely cheaper per head at three people. It’s cheaper and it already contains the
upgrade you’d otherwise pay for. That’s our own published inclusion list, read on 20 August 2026 —
and reading it is exactly the step this article opened by saying people skip.

At two people it reverses: the SUV is 6,601,357₫ each, which is 950,797₫ more than the
motorbike seat, and one person alone in an SUV pays 9,445,274₫. The vehicle costs what it costs,
and all you are doing is dividing it between however many of you there are.

A Jeep is a different product and prices like one: 8,808,480₫ each for three or four people
on the same three days. You are paying for the Jeep, not for a cheaper way to travel.

So: a car makes sense if you’ve got three or more people, or if someone in the group isn’t
getting on a bike, or if sleeping in a dorm for two nights is the part you were quietly dreading.
Below three it’s a comfort decision with a price on it, and now you know the number.

What about insurance?

We do carry a policy for you. Bảo Việt, the standard operator cover, with a death benefit of
50,000,000₫. It’s a minimum-level policy and I’d rather tell you that plainly: it isn’t
travel insurance and it isn’t a substitute for travel insurance.

So we ask every rider to buy their own before they arrive, and to check that it covers motorbikes.
Don’t take a website’s word for it, ours included: open the policy document and search it for the
word “motorcycle”. If there’s an exclusion, that’s where it will be, and the add-on that removes it
is usually a separate line you have to pay for.

The cover we do provide properly is on the bike itself. If it goes down and cannot be ridden, moving
or replacing it is our cost, not yours.

Budget for your own policy separately. It’s the one line on this page where saving money is a bad trade.

Why are we not the cheapest?

Because of what is under the price.

July is our quietest month of the year, and we keep our drivers on through it rather than standing
them down until the season turns. Income tax is withheld across the payroll. Social insurance is paid
for our salaried staff — that cohort, not the per-day drivers. It’s a real cost and it sits inside the
figures above.

When you see this route sold well below our price, that money came out of somewhere. On this road it
usually comes out of the meals, the state of the bike, or the person riding in front of you.

I will give you the other side too. We are not the cheapest, our guests are still mostly British and
Australian, and if you want the lowest number on the loop we are not it. Ride it yourself with us at
4,276,800₫, or take a cheaper option elsewhere with your eyes open. Both are reasonable. Being quoted
a low number and finding out later what was removed is not.

What can still change your final number?

• Tết. Departures over the lunar new year carry a 10% surcharge, from the 25th day of the
  twelfth lunar month to the 5th day of the first. In plain dates that’s roughly 3–22 February
  2026, and 23 January – 11 February 2027.
• Cancelling. Between 30 and 16 days before departure you lose 50%, plus any bank charges
  the refund incurs. Inside 15 days you lose your deposit. Not turning up costs the full amount, so
  the closer you get to departure the more of the trip you’ve already bought.
• Changing your mind on the road. Switching from a driver to riding yourself does not refund the
  difference.
• Skipping things. Meals, tickets and beds that are in the price but not used are not refunded.
  That’s standard, and worth knowing before you build a plan you won’t follow.

Common questions

Does the price include the boat on the Nho Quế river?
Yes. It falls on day three, and the ticket is inside every package listed above.

Is there a private room, or is it dorms only?
Both are available. A private room is 432,000₫ per room per night for one bed (about US$17), 648,000₫

Can I pay in dollars?
Yes, in either USD or VND, and payment is settled before the trip starts.

Do I need cash on the road?
Some. Your meals and tickets are already paid for, so the cash is for drinks, snacks and whatever
you add along the way.

What if I’m not booking a package at all?
Then this page only half answers you. We don’t publish a standalone rental price, so the bike-only
number isn’t here. Everything above assumes you’re buying a trip rather than assembling one.

Is the bus really included?
Both directions, Hà Nội to Hà Giang and back, in every price on this page. If you are comparing us
with a cheaper number somewhere else, check whether that number carries the bus before you decide.
