Ha Giang Local (“we”, “us”) publishes first-hand guides to the Ha Giang Loop at hagianglocal.com. This policy explains what we collect when you visit, why, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written in plain English on purpose.
What we collect
Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides are read and how people find them. It records the pages you view, roughly how long you stay, the type of device and browser you use, an approximate location derived from your IP address (city level, not street level), and the site or search that referred you. Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses.
Email. If you write to us, we keep your message and email address so we can answer you and refer back to the conversation if you write again. We do not add you to any mailing list.
Server logs. Our web host keeps standard access logs (IP address, timestamp, page requested) as part of running and securing the site.
We do not run a shop, we do not take payments on this site, and we do not collect payment details.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies (names beginning _ga) to tell repeat visits apart from new ones. WordPress may set a session cookie if you leave a comment. We do not use advertising or retargeting cookies.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time, or install Google’s opt-out add-on. The guides will work normally either way.
Why we are allowed to collect it
Under UK and EU data protection law we rely on legitimate interest for basic analytics — understanding which guides are useful so we can write better ones — and on your consent where consent is required for cookies. Where you email us, we process your message to respond to your request.
Who else sees it
Google, as our analytics provider. Our web host, as the company running the server. That is the complete list. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
How long we keep it
Analytics data is retained by Google for up to 14 months. Emails are kept for as long as they are useful for answering you, and deleted on request. Server logs are rotated by our host on their standard schedule.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can email us to ask what data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask us to delete it. We will answer within 30 days.
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, you also have the right to object to processing, to restrict it, to receive your data in a portable format, and to complain to your data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
If you are in Australia, the Australian Privacy Principles apply and you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Affiliate links
Some links in our guides are affiliate links. If you book or buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we recommend — we write about operators and routes based on first-hand experience, including when the honest answer is not to book. Any guide containing affiliate links says so.
Children
This site is written for adults planning motorbike travel. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and change the date at the top.
